A brief review of our current crisis
With 300+ natural disasters every year, preparing for some form of disruption should already be the normal course for board governance and strategic planning.
The level of communication readiness determines an organization’s ability to be resilient through a disruption.
Note: Better recording methods are a significant factor in the chart's increase.
Challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic are reminding organization leaders and corporate boards about the importance of risk management. From discussions regarding the safety of employees, supporting customers, and continuing business results, business resilience has emerged as a common theme.
Business resilience - the ability to operate through a disruptive event with little to no impact on employees, customers and business results - has a broader perspective than business continuity, and it is worthy of board attention. The key is expanding the definition of a “disruptive event” to include, but not limited to, weather events, fires, business model disruption due to competitive decisions, regulatory changes, and even pandemics.
To help organizations prepare to be ready, responsive, and resilient through disruptive events, 8x8 has put together a framework for boards to consider as part of their oversight.
In the span of 30 days, the world has changed from shaking hands to social distancing. Everyone is now very familiar with the requirements for working remotely: Cloud Communications.
The sudden changes to the way business is done, education is delivered, and health care is provided will have a lasting impact on how we work. Right now, every board of directors, however big or small, is re-evaluating their ability to be resilient through the environment that lies before them. Although many boards have had risk management or business continuity on the agenda, those topics were not developed to a depth that enabled quick and adequate response to disruptive events. The current situation is highlighting this point.
As they look for answers, it is clear that cloud communications will be core to the solution that defines how each company will be ready and resilient for the new way of connecting, communicating, and working that lies ahead.
People will need to interact with people naturally from anywhere on any device. From work. From home. On their device. On their computer. In their CRM app. Teaching. Conducting telemedicine consultations. In secure government cabinet meetings.
The key is being there with the technology, experience, and partnership that will quickly put them on the path to business resilience. Your company can lead the way with 8x8.
